Luis de la Fuente and the Spanish national team coaching staff have on Saturday been dealt a setback on the personnel front. This comes amid confirmation of Pedro Porro dropping out of La Roja’s latest squad.
Defender Porro of course played a starring role over the summer, as Spain marched all the way to glory at the World Cup.
Forming a brilliant partnership with Lamine Yamal down the Spanish right flank, the 27-year-old notched two goals across six starts all told.
It therefore came as little surprise when Porro was included in his country’s latest call-up for the September international break. The world champions are primed to face off with England, Croatia (twice) and Czechia over the weeks ahead.
As alluded to above, though, their first-choice right-back will play no part. As per a statement across the social media platforms of the Spanish national team:
‘Spanish international Pedro Porro has been ruled out of the squad announced by Luis de la Fuente for the UEFA Nations League after suffering an injury in the match between Tottenham Hotspur FC and Aston Villa FC on Saturday, September 19.
‘The list, for the moment, consists of 25 footballers.’
