A member of the goalkeeper ranks in the Spanish national team setup has this week provided his take on the ongoing absence of Joan García from Luis de la Fuente’s plans.
The subject of Joan’s international prospects has of course long proven a prominent one across the Spanish football landscape.
The 24-year-old is widely considered to have been the very best goalkeeper in La Liga over the course of last season.
As much earned Joan a move to one of the country’s top clubs, in Barcelona, with whom he has since largely impressed, too.
And yet, as of this moment, the shot-stopper is yet to see his efforts rewarded by way of a senior international call.
Speaking after linking up with Spain’s squad for the latest time this week, La Roja no.1 Unai Simón was therefore drawn on the situation of his fellow countryman.
And the Athletic Club standout, during an interview with El Larguero, was diplomatic in his response:
“Joan García not called up by Spain yet? He is doing very well, but by the same rule of thumb, Robert Sánchez should come in too. If Joan comes in, one of us will have to leave. But Remiro and David are doing great, and I think I’m doing well too.”
