Minutes later, the link was live inside the Spain v Croatia fixture listing for 29 September at the Sánchez-Pizjuán, not where fans expected it after RFEF’s guidance.

Many who logged on promptly searched the England game and found the buy button inactive, while tickets were being released in a different section of the site.

As word spread on social media, an alternative link circulated and some secured seats, but for others it was too late and availability dwindled rapidly.

RFEF had set Wednesday as the public sale following a Tuesday presale for Atlético de Madrid members. The match is scheduled for Sunday 15 November at 20:45 at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

Complaints focused less on the speed of the sell-out than on the link’s unexpected location, which created an uneven scramble and added confusion to already heavy demand.
