Spain will welcome Czechia to the Estadio Municipal Carlos Tartiere in Oviedo this Saturday for their latest UEFA Nations League Group 3 fixture, aiming to keep their remarkable winning run alive.
Under Luis de la Fuente, Spain are in extraordinary shape and currently unbeaten in 40 consecutive matches—a record-breaking sequence that includes major tournament success. La Roja have won nine games in a row across all competitions, a streak that features their World Cup final victory over Argentina, secured by a 1-0 win. That momentum has carried straight into the Nations League, where they sit atop Group 3 after a 3-2 away win against England at Wembley and a commanding 4-1 home victory over Croatia in Seville.
Despite leading the group following the 4-1 defeat of Croatia, de la Fuente is dealing with a string of absences that have disrupted his plans.
Left-back Alejandro Grimaldo has left the camp with a thigh problem and has been replaced by Real Madrid’s Fran García. The attack has been hit hard: Nico Williams is out with a thigh issue, and Ferran Torres has withdrawn because of ankle discomfort.
Defender Eric García also departed early due to a knee complaint, leading to Robin Le Normand being recalled to the squad. In response to these setbacks, 20-year-old Real Madrid forward Carlos Espí has received his first senior call-up to bolster the attacking options.
Key midfield figures Rodri, Pedri and Dani Olmo are all fully rested and working their way back into contention, so they are expected to be managed carefully rather than thrown straight into the starting XI.
Possible Spain starting XI: Simon; Pubill, Cubarsi, Laporte, Cucurella; Ruiz, Rodri; Yamal, Olmo, N Williams; Oyarzabal
The match will kick off at 7:45pm BST on Saturday, 3rd October.
