Juventus and Luciano Spalletti have long decided to stick together, and they chose to make it official this week, right before another pivotal clash in the UEFA Champions League race, as the Bianconeri will take on Atalanta on Sunday.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the coach has signed a two-year contract with no further options. He’ll earn €6M annually, after making about €3M this campaign following Igor Tudor’s ousting.

Juventus opted to separate the future of Spalletti from this year’s outcome as a vote of confidence. Making the top four or not will be highly influential in their transfer market strategies, but it won’t affect the boss.

The veteran has registered 17 wins, 8 draws, and 6 losses at the helm of the Bianconeri. His thirst for a bounce-back spell after his time on the Italy bench coincides with the club’s wish to have a big name in its dugout.

The gaffer received reassurances about the future squad before putting pen to paper. The Old Lady will try to bring in veterans to form a sort of instant team. In that respect, their priority targets are Alisson, Antonio Rudiger, Franck Kessié, Leon Goretzka, Bernardo Silva, and Robert Lewandowski. The goalie appears to be the most reachable. The Manchester City ace seems to favor Barcelona, while the others haven’t made up their mind yet.

Our Take on Juventus and Spalletti

He’s not been spotless or solved all their issues, but at least he’s not been as clueless as other managers they’ve had in recent years. They would have been hard-pressed to find a better solution without thinking way out of the box, with all the perils that such a route entails.
