The Real Madrid presidential election campaign is well and truly underway and quite unsurprisingly, it has led to a lot of talk about promises and guarantees from the candidates.

Enrique Riquelme, who is launching a hopeful bid to dethrone Florentino Perez, has already promised Real Madrid fans to bring in Rodri as his first signing if he becomes the new president.

Another figure who has been linked to Riquelme’s candidacy is Cesc Fabregas. Riquelme wants the Spaniard to coach Real Madrid, which represents a stark contrast to Perez’s preferred choice of Jose Mourinho.

Cesc not leaving Como

According to Diario SPORT, Fabregas has no intention of leaving Como this summer. The Spaniard signed with the Italian club until 2028 and has no plans to leave.

In fact, he is already planning for their historic Champions League campaign next season, having guided them from Serie B to Europe’s elite competition in just three seasons.

At Como, Fabregas carries enormous influence over all sporting decisions, from signings to organisational matters, and has built a project that is very much his own.

His philosophy of playing cheerful, attacking football has been a sensation in Italian football, earning him the best coach of the year award in Serie A.

An option for Barcelona?

Fabregas has also made clear what he will not do. He stated that signing for any club as an assistant is a non-starter, thus ruling out any role on Mourinho’s staff, despite having won a Premier League title alongside the Portuguese at Chelsea.

The Catalan wants to continue his own path and go step by step. Interestingly, his contract with Como expires in 2028, the same year Hansi Flick’s deal with Barcelona runs out.

That makes him a potential candidate for Barcelona’s coaching vacancy.
