Spanish federation ‘to unveil’ pioneering egg-freezing deal for women’s team | OneFootball

Spain’s federation has an agreement in place with a leading clinic to offer egg freezing to senior women’s internationals, a programme that has been running since the first quarter of the year. El Periódico reports that the deal has been closed for months and is already active.

Players are said to welcome the move, with some already seeking information on how to take part.

"For me it is a huge step because the federation understands you are serving your country against your biological clock, that you cannot stop and you cannot be a mother because you need your body for work." She told El País.

The plan is not intended to discourage motherhood during a playing career, rather to provide another option so athletes do not have to rule it out. It follows a reconciliation scheme that allows mothers to have their children with them on trips and in camps.

FUTPRO previously struck a partnership with a leading assisted reproduction centre to support members’ maternity plans. Now the RFEF has reached what is described as a maximum-scope agreement for Spain’s players, becoming the first federation in the world to formalise such a deal.

Further details are still to be set out and are due to be explained at an official presentation planned for the end of September.
