Sparta Rotterdam pick up key midfielder from city rivals Excelsior | OneFootball

Sparta Rotterdam have announced the signing of 26-year-old midfielder Lance Duijvestijn. The midfielder has signed a deal until 2029 with the club and comes over from city rivals Excelsior. It is certainly a coup for the side, as Duijvestijn was a key component in Excelsior’s promotion back to the Eredivisie. The 26-year-old won the Player of the Season for the Dutch second tier last season.

Duijvestijn joined Excelsior during the 2023/2024 campaign from Almere city. During 17 games that season he scored six goals and grabbed five assists. He pretty much doubled these numbers last season, with 12 goals and 11 assists in just 24 games. The attacking midfielder has been key in two promotions now, having helped Almere win promotion during the 2022/2023 season with 12 goals. During his career, Diujvestijn has played for Helmond Sport and NEC Nijmegen after coming through the ADO Den Haag academy.

Sparta are looking to be active this summer, with a new goalkeeper also on their wish list. It appears they may be closing in on signing Lech Poznan’s Filip Bednarek on a free transfer.
