Sparta Rotterdam host Feyenoord in the Eredivisie on Sunday, 9 August 2026 at Sparta-Stadion Het Kasteel, with both teams chasing an early platform after contrasting warm-ups.
Feyenoord have dominated recent meetings, winning 4-0 at Het Kasteel in August 2025 and edging a 4-3 thriller in January 2026. The visitors also start the campaign from the upper reaches of last season's final table, while Sparta begin from the lower half.
Sparta arrive on the back of draws with MSV Duisburg and Asteras after beating Telstar and VOC, with only a single loss at Zulte Waregem in pre-season. Feyenoord strung together four straight friendly wins, including 6-0 at Dordrecht and 3-1 victories over Club Brugge and Royal Charleroi, plus a 2-1 success against Atalanta.
Rogier Meijer will be without suspended midfielder Julian Baas. Giovanni van Bronckhorst is missing a raft of defenders in Bart Nieuwkoop, Gijs Smal, Tsuyoshi Watanabe, Thomas Beelen and Jordan Bos, while midfielder Jakub Moder and forward Gaoussou Diarra are also out.
Ayase Ueda and Anis Hadj Moussa could carry the visitors' threat, while Sparta may look to Mitchell Van Bergen, Shunsuke Mito or Casper Terho to stretch the game in wide areas.
A win would move either side on to three points and could lift them into the early top places. Sparta then visit Telstar, while Feyenoord host Go Ahead Eagles next.
