A new Ghanaian star sets foot in Russia
Spartak Moscow officially announces the signing of Alexander Djiku!
In a major transfer announcement, Russian Premier League club Spartak Moscow has confirmed the signing of Ghanaian international Alexander Djiku. The 31-year-old center-back joins the Krasno-Belye (The Red-Whites) on a permanent deal following his departure from Turkish side Fenerbahçe.
The transfer, reportedly valued at €2.5 million plus potential add-ons, will see Djiku commit his future to the Moscow-based club for the next two seasons. Spartak Moscow made the deal official through a announcement on their social media channels, welcoming the experienced defender to their ranks for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.
This move marks a new chapter in Djiku's career, bringing his talents to the Russian top flight.
Driven by a ambition to secure a starting position for the 2026 World Cup, Alexander Djiku's move to Spartak Moscow was a deliberate choice for playing time. Despite receiving attention from a number of French Ligue 1 sides, including Lille, Nice, and Toulouse, it was the Russian club's offer that was ultimately accepted by his former team, Fenerbahçe.
The Montpellier-born defender is set to complete his medical and be officially unveiled after the current international break concludes. Djiku remains a pivotal figure for the Ghana national team, a status he recently underscored by scoring a crucial goal in their vital qualifying victory against Mali.
