Spectacular comeback: Will Wanner be back in the mix at FC Bayern? | OneFootball

Paul Wanner left FC Bayern in the summer of 2025 to give his career at PSV Eindhoven a new boost. At the time, the Munich club received around 15 million euros for their homegrown talent. Apparently, however, Bayern has never fully closed the chapter on this player.

As transfer insider Ekrem Konur reports, the Munich club continues to closely monitor the progress of the now 20-year-old. This could become particularly interesting because Wanner is reportedly on the radar of several European powerhouses.

Real Madrid, Liverpool FC, and Manchester City are reportedly interested in the Austrian national team player.

Should one of these top clubs make a serious move, Bayern Munich, of all clubs, could play a decisive role in the transfer negotiations.

Bayern holds a buyback option for Wanner

The Munich club apparently protected itself against exactly this scenario when they sold him. According to consistent media reports, the record champions hold a buyback clause. According to Konur, this clause is reportedly set at 30 million euros.

In addition, the transfer expert reports that Bayern has a right of first refusal. Should another club make a concrete move, this could give the Munich club the opportunity to respond on its own.

PSV is said to have now set a price tag of 45 to 50 million euros for Wanner. For Bayern, a return would thus be significantly cheaper due to the reported clause. His current market value is estimated at 22 million euros.

Whether the club’s decision-makers actually want to take advantage of this opportunity remains to be seen, however.

Wanner was long considered one of the top talents at the Bayern Campus. In 2018, he joined the record champion’s youth academy and made the leap to the first team early on. However, he was unable to establish himself permanently in Munich.

A major breakthrough has yet to materialize

Wanner subsequently gained playing experience during loan stints with SV Elversberg and 1. FC Heidenheim before making his permanent move to Eindhoven in the summer of 2025.

There, the attacking midfielder has since become a regular starter. His statistical output this season, however, remains modest. After eight competitive matches, Wanner has one assist.

Nevertheless, his potential continues to be highly regarded even outside the Netherlands. The rumored interest from Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester City underscores this.

For Bayern, their transfer strategy at the time could now pay off. Instead of letting Wanner go without any further recourse, they are said to have kept a backdoor open with the buyback clause.

It’s also interesting to note that even if Wanner has no prospects on the field in Munich, FC Bayern could still end up benefiting financially, much like they did with Noel Aseko. The midfielder was signed from Hannover last summer via a buyback option worth 3.5 million euros and sold to Eintracht Frankfurt a few weeks later for 12 million euros.
