Borussia Dortmund leads Europe’s spectator rankings in 2025, with FC Bayern following in second place. The Bundesliga sets clear standards overall

The Transfermarkt portal has published a ranking of the highest average stadium attendances in European club soccer in 2025. The result is less a sporting assessment than a barometer of popularity and culture. And the result is clear: Germany is Europe’s number one spectator power

Borussia Dortmund tops the list with an average of 81,365 spectators per home match. BVB thus clearly stands out from all other clubs and once again underlines the special position of Signal Iduna Park as the largest and consistently sold-out stadium in Europe. No other club brings such a mass of fans into the stands week after week – regardless of the competition or league position

Bayern remains Europe’s number two

With an average of 75,000 spectators per home match, the German record champions confirm their enormous appeal and 100% capacity utilization of the Allianz Arena

Third place goes to Manchester United with 73,880 spectators on average, followed by Real Madrid in fourth place with 72,973. Both clubs have global fan bases, but even these global brands do not come close to the Bundesliga’s top figures. It is striking that while individual clubs in England and Spain stand out, Germany is exceptionally strong across the board

Bundesliga culture beats league affiliation

The large number of German clubs in the top 20 of the ranking is particularly remarkable. In addition to Dortmund and Bayern, other clubs such as Schalke, VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt and Hamburger SV are also represented – in some cases regardless of their current league affiliation. The fact that second division clubs such as Schalke and HSV are among the clubs with the highest attendance figures in Europe is a clear unique selling point of German soccer

Italy follows with traditional clubs such as AC Milan, Inter Milan and AS Roma, while England is represented by several clubs, including West Ham, Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal. Spain also has a respectable presence with Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Real Betis. Nevertheless, the core message remains clear: no league combines stadium capacity, fan loyalty and consistency as strongly as the Bundesliga
