Inter bitterly regret purchasing Joao Mario and that feeling might intensify with news of a new hearing in December, as Sporting CP want another €30m.

The Portuguese midfielder was a total flop on the field when bought from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2016 for €44.78m.

He went on various loans to West Ham United, Lokomotiv Moscow, back to Sporting and then was handed to Benfica as a free agent in 2021 when his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The player is currently at Besiktas, but the problems continue to follow Inter around and could get worse.

Joao Mario a costly Inter mistake

Portuguese sports paper Record reports that Sporting CP are still engaging a legal battle for another €30m and the hearing has been set for December 9.

Sporting maintain that the termination of the contract by mutual consent in 2021 allowed Inter to by-pass a clause in the contract, which prevented them from selling Joao Mario to another Portuguese club.

The penalty they want paid is €30m and FIFA rejected the first appeal, but a new hearing will be held by the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) on December 9.
