Sporting director confirms Real Madrid plans to sign midfielder – “They are coming with everything” | OneFootball

Real Madrid have had a busy summer transfer window, with six new players having joined Jose Mourinho’s squad. While the club as a whole is expected to have a quiet final week, there is a good chance that one more fresh face arrives before the deadline.

Last week, it was reported that Real Madrid were in talks to sign 19-year-old midfielder Sergio Martinez, who has made an impressive start to the 2026-27 season with Racing Santander. His €3m release clause is easily attainable, meaning that a deal would be done if they can persuade him to join.

It won’t be that easy for Real Madrid. Racing sporting director Chema Aragon has confirmed to the media (via MD) that strong interest is being shown from the Bernabeu, although the Cantabrians are confident that they can keep hm.

“Real Madrid are coming with everything. The boy is in a logical and normal phase of meditating on the situation. Real Madrid has come, they come with everything, in what has to come at the level of loving the player. There’s Real Madrid, but for him there’s also Racing de Santander. It is not an economic issue. It’s a matter of not fooling ourselves, that the boy is clear that if we logically guarantee what he has had so far, to be a starter in La Liga, he will never change the position he has at Racing de Santander.”

Martinez would join Castilla if deal agreed

Real Madrid will believe that the allure of joining them is enough for Martinez to be convinced to sign, but it won’t be that easy. Their plan is for him to play for Castilla in the third tier of Spanish football, whereas if he stays with Racing, he would be part of a squad playing in La Liga.

This drop down may convince Martinez to stay at Racing, although Real Madrid will hope that a deal can be done in the final few days of the summer transfer window.
