Sporting could sign Ibrahima Ba as a replacement for Ousmane Diomande, after the Senegalese centre-back was linked with Marco Silva’s Benfica.

Benfica suffered a setback when Ba opted for Strasbourg, only for that move to collapse after his medical. According to O JOGO, the defender could now end up at Sporting.

With Diomande set to join Nottingham Forest, Sporting are said to have moved quickly and are close to completing a deal for the Famalicão player.

The board led by Frederico Varandas are in advanced talks with Famalicão, with a fee of 20 million euros under discussion and a percentage of any future sale retained by the selling club.

Ba is expected in Lisbon in the coming days for medical tests and to sign a multi-year contract. He scored one goal in 24 appearances last season.

Meanwhile, António Silva’s future appears increasingly away from Benfica. The centre-back will not renew his contract and is prepared to join Bournemouth, with an agreement reached with the player and his agent Jorge Mendes last week.
