Paris Saint-Germain pulled off a dramatic comeback from 2-0 down to claim the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham, winning 4-3 on penalties after a thrilling encounter in Udine.

Tottenham looked well on their way to lifting the trophy after first-half goals from Micky van de Ven and new skipper Cristian Romero put Thomas Frank’s side in command.

The Dutch defender struck in the 39th minute, sweeping home after a scramble, before Romero doubled the lead three minutes into the second half with a well-timed header from Pedro Porro’s delivery.

PSG had struggled to find a way through, but Luis Enrique’s changes turned the tide. Lee Kang-in halved the deficit on 85 minutes, finishing neatly from Vitinha’s pass, and with the clock deep into stoppage time, Ousmane Dembélé teed up Gonçalo Ramos to slam in the equaliser, meaning the Super Cup would be decided from the spot.

Despite Vitinha missing PSG’s first effort, Spurs faltered when Van de Ven and Mathys Tel both failed to convert. That opened the door for Nuno Mendes, who coolly dispatched the winning penalty to seal a 4-3 shootout victory.
