Spurs captain Romero signs new deal | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a major boost with skipper Cristián Romero committing his future to the club on a new four-year contract.

The Argentina international, who lifted the World Cup in 2022, has extended his stay at Spurs until 2029, adding two more years onto his previous deal which was set to expire in 2027.

The 27-year-old had attracted serious interest from Atletico Madrid earlier in the summer, with the defender himself admitting in the past that he’d like to play in Spain one day. But those hopes have been put on hold after he chose to tie himself down in north London.

It marks a strong show of faith in new head coach Thomas Frank, who handed Romero the captain’s armband last week following Son Heung-min’s move to LAFC.

His decision comes only hours after teammate Djed Spence also put pen to paper on a new deal, giving Spurs fans plenty to smile about as the Europa League winners prepare for the new campaign.
