Spurs fans commenting via their top supporters forum:
‘Newcastle away, might not be too bad.’
‘…what, for Newcastle…?’
‘Could’ve been worse. They’re not all that. Tough game but i fancy our chances.’
‘The worst draw possible. Mainly due to the travel for our supporters and we’re really sh.. up there lately.
Would’ve preferred pretty much anyone else.’
‘They are favourites, but we can give them a game.’
‘Tie of the round.’
‘Newcastle are a good side but hardly world beaters. We can do them.’
‘We’ll win this.’
‘I’d rather Newcastle than Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea
They, like us will have to rotate. i think we can get the result.’
‘Absolutely bizarre reaction to getting Newcastle
as if we’ve been drawn away at Barca in 2011.’
‘Nightmare draw for us, but I suppose it’s a chance to stop our shocking recent record there.’
‘Newcastle haven’t got any strikers. Wissaa won’t be back.’
‘Even if we get past Newcatle,it’s going to be a loaded quarter-final.’
‘Having only just won it, let’s hope Newcastle have their eyes on other things….’
‘They’ve had the goods on us last couple of seasons, and Sid James Park is one of the worst places to go in a cup game. But they don’t have Isak and are beatable. I would go strongest eleven though, play some of the fringe boys up there and we will get bullied.’
‘Beat Newcastle then it’s an easy run to the final.’
‘I’m an Edinburgh Spurs fan. Looking to take in a couple of away games this season. I can’t imagine we’ll sell out our away allocation, so location-wise, it’s good for me, but it’s Newcastle.’
‘We usually do sell the allocation for the PL but for the Carabao on a Wednesday it might be a different matter.’
‘Carabao cup has not got our name written on it this season.
Just look at who is left, to temper that undiluted optimism.
All the tub-thumping in the world is not going to see us navigate this path, especially without that ‘special’ game-changing talent.’
‘Good stuff. It’ll likely go to general sale. Shouldn’t be too much hassle obtaining tickets.’
‘Toughest draw of the round. They don’t have our squad depth though & obviously aren’t the same team without Isak.
Horrendous place to visit anytime let alone a midweek evening. Should be a great game, confident we can get a result. Won’t be easy!’
‘We absolutely dominated them in the league at St James last season. Still not sure how we lost that game.’
‘We avoided Grimsby.’
‘Just hate St James with a passion. Mid week as well right before a Chelsea match disgusts me.
Much as I hate the Gooners I genuinely would rather we beat Chelsea this year. It’s been so long and they’ve humiliated us under Ange. Would love to give them a hiding. Unfortunately going to Goodison and St James earlier that week and then playing Chelsea signifies bad things.’
‘I don’t get the uproar about drawing Newcastle. The nature of the domestic cups means we will always have to play a decent PL side.
If our name is meant to be on the cup this year then we’ll win these games. If we don’t, well isn’t it better to go out early against PL sides rather than get to the semi final and get knocked out like we did last year. To win it we’ll need to beat the likes of Newcastle.
If we can’t beat them then we clearly aren’t good enough to win this trophy and we are better off out of it.
Woolwich, Liverpool, City and Chelsea are all better than Newcastle so if we can’t beat Newcastle then we have less chance of beating the other sides.
I see nothing to fear. They are good at home but hardly unbeatable.’
‘Could have done with one more round without it.’
‘Last year I’m pretty sure we had to beat ManC, ManU and Liverpool to get to the final. We did 2 out of the 3 which as Meatloaf said, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.
Newcastle in comparison is an easier game.’
‘But it is much nicer to only have to do that in the Semi’s and Final.’
‘Be fair – no one’s an easier game than the Manchester clubs!’
‘We are sh.. away to them so it’s understandable but we have a new manager now and a good team , I’d say we are better than them man for man so let’s play without fear , we got this.’
