Just the evening before Tottenham's Premier League fixture away to Everton, it was confirmed by multiple reliable sources that striker Dominic Solanke had suffered a muscular injury in training earlier that day, meaning he will be out for tomorrow's clash in the North West.
To add to Spurs' current injury crisis, it is feared he could be on the sidelines for more than just tomorrow's game, potentially missing their last two Europa League group matches, away in Germany at Hoffenheim, and a home game against Elfsborg. The 27-year-old, who signed from fellow Premier League side Bournemouth in the summer for a big fee of sixty-five million pounds, has netted on eleven occasions for the Lilywhite's this campaign, with seven of those coming in the league.
It's a bit of a kick in the teeth for Ange Postecoglu and his side, as Solanke usually has a very good injury record, playing every single one of Bournemouth's games in the Premier League last season, only missing five the year before and then playing all forty-six of the Cherries' promotion winning season from the Championship in 21/22.
With Richarlison as the club's only other recognised 'number nine', we are going to see Heung-Min Son to lead the line at Goodison Park this afternoon, with the Brazilian only just coming back from injury, getting twelve minutes in the midweek defeat at the hands of arch rivals Arsenal at the Emirates.
This might give Postecoglu something to think about, as Son can definitely make runs in behind a sluggish Everton defence like Solanke, but they might be missing that strength, hold up and link up play that the Englishman could provide.
A physical partnership of James Tarkowski & Jarrard Branthwaite would fancy themselves to come out on top in that department, however it's not something completely new to the South Korean playing as a nine, and he's a very experienced professional now at 32-years-old, so it's something that shouldn't faze him.
Another injury added to the Spurs list, which no doubt would have left Postecoglu feeling frustrated, as the pressure on him is starting to build from certain fans. Fail to win tomorrow and they will stay in 15th, after Crystal Palace leap-frogged them after their impressive 0-2 away win at West Ham, a position nowhere near good enough.
That said, spirits have to be kept somewhat high, with the team having a 1-0 lead over Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, progression to the 4th round of the FA Cup and still on course to qualify out of the Europa League group.
