Spurs loan watch: League One round up

On Saturday afternoon, there was League One match day 40 action for three Tottenham Hotspur loanees – as Josh Keeley and Jamie Donley’s Leyton Orient side hosted Wigan Athletic, whilst Matthew Craig and his Mansfield Town faced Huddersfield Town away from home.

How things went down in League One for Spurs loanees on Saturday

For Orient, Keeley made his 30th start in League One this season. However, Donley was named amongst those on the bench. Former Spurs academy player, Dilan Markanaday, was named in the starting XI for the O’s.

In the first half, Orient had the majority of possession, and restricted Wigan to just one shot of any note – but struggled to create too much themselves, having just four attempts – none of which were on target.

However, in the second half, the O’s were completely dominant. They had 11 shots whilst not conceding a single shot themselves. They had 68% of the ball, 10 corners, and created four big chances – but infuriatingly could not find that all important winner, and were forced to make do with a point.

With 14 minutes remaining, Donley came on as a sub – though could not make an impact on the game. It was no doubt the easiest of Keeley’s 15 clean sheets this season, as he had zero saves to make – with the visitors having one shot all game. Very quiet afternoon at the office.

It is worth mentioning that 15 clean sheets in 30 games is a superb record. Only three keepers in League One have kept more than that – all with 16 each – two of those keepers are playing for the top two, and the other has played seven more games than Keeley.

This draw leaves Orient in 9th place in League One, with 60 points from their 40 games – six points off the play offs. You feel they really had to win this one to keep their chances alive.

Meanwhile, after scoring against Charlton Athletic in midweek on his first league start for Mansfield, Craig was named in the XI for a second time in a row, starting on the left hand side of the midfield for Nigel Clough’s side.

This game was more lowkey for the Spurs loanee, though he did play 74 minutes, and play fairly well, recording; 49 touches, two chances created, 2/2 dribble attempts, and 5/5 ground duels won. Good to see him back playing after a very tough few months.

This defeat leaves Mansfield in 17th place in League Two, with 47 points from their 40 games so far.

Next up for both sides is a game against each other. Mansfield will host Orient on Tuesday, for a 19:45 BST kick off. Go well lads.
