Spurs are hoping to appoint Roberto De Zerbi before their trip to Sunderland on 12 April. The former Brighton and Marseille boss is understood to be their leading choice to take charge immediately.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported on X that De Zerbi is now open to considering a five-year offer from Spurs, with talks to follow and the next few hours potentially decisive.

Spurs failed to win a competitive game during Igor Tudor’s six-week interim and sit one point above the relegation zone. Assistant Bruno Saltor is overseeing training during the international break, and the club want a new head coach in place when players return this week.

Sean Dyche has been linked if De Zerbi declines. On Sunday Tudor left with immediate effect, and Tomislav Rogic and Riccardo Ragnacci also departed, with thanks and support offered after a recent bereavement, and an update promised in due course.

Spurs hope the break brings returns. Guglielmo Vicario has undergone hernia surgery and could face Sunderland, otherwise Antonín Kinský would step in. Mathys Tel is a minor doubt.

Mohammed Kudus and Rodrigo Bentancur are nearing full training, while James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Ben Davies could follow. Wilson Odobert is out and Yves Bissouma is a doubt.
