Spurs miss huge survival chance in draw with Leeds | OneFootball

Tottenham missed the chance to take a major step towards Premier League survival after being held to a tense 1-1 draw by Leeds United in north London.

With rivals West Ham United beaten by Arsenal earlier in the weekend, Spurs knew victory would move them four points clear of the bottom three. Instead, a costly moment from Mathys Tel denied them a huge win.

The visitors started brightly and nearly opened the scoring through Joe Rodon, whose close-range header was brilliantly pushed away by Antonin Kinsky. Spurs gradually settled into the game and finally found the breakthrough shortly after half-time when Tel produced a stunning curled finish from the edge of the box.

The hosts looked comfortable and should have extended their lead, but Richarlison wasted a glorious opportunity from close range.

That miss came back to haunt Tottenham when Tel’s attempted overhead clearance caught Ethan Ampadu in the face inside the area. After a VAR review, Dominic Calvert-Lewin calmly converted the penalty to equalise.

Leeds nearly stole all three points in stoppage time, only for Kinsky to produce another superb save to deny Sean Longstaff and rescue Spurs a point.
