Since securing a win against FC Augsburg on matchday three, FC St. Pauli have lost sixth straight Bundesliga fixtures. Most concerning for St. Pauli head coach Alexander Blessin, Hamburg’s Kiezkicker have failed to even score a goal in their last five games.
A second round cup win against Hoffenheim midweek didn’t do much to improve the mood at the club, particularly not after St. Pauli got pummeled 0-4 by lowly Borussia Mönchengladbach in front of their loyal fans at the Millerntor on Saturday afternoon.
A random occurrence at the post-match press conference summed up Blessin’s last few weeks. At 18:17 on Saturday afternoon, Blessin was talking about his team’s recurrent problematic patterns when the lights flickered off in the Millerntor press room.
“Of all the times for the lights to go out,” Blessin morbidly reflected once power was restored. “We were unable to carry the energy from the cup win forward. After Tuesday’s cup game, I thought we were back on track. I really have to question myself because things can’t go on like this.“
