St Pauli’s Bundesliga match against RB Leipzig, scheduled for Saturday afternoon, has been postponed because of severe winter weather in northern Germany.
The club said in a statement that heavy snowfall and drifting snow meant venue and event safety could not be guaranteed under operational regulations.
Staff and service providers had spent several days clearing the pitch, stands and access routes of snow and ice, often repeatedly, but making the roof areas safe proved almost impossible.
Following assessments from authorities after days of discussions, the recommendation was to cancel the game due to the overall situation in Hamburg, including added strain on emergency services and medical infrastructure, plus significant risks and restrictions on surrounding traffic.
Details on a new date and further information will be announced as soon as possible.
