Stabile: Depay offered to leave luxury hotel to aid Corinthians

On the evening of last Wednesday (5), President Osmar Stabile gave an interview and spoke about Memphis Depay's departure from the luxurious hotel used as his residence in recent months. According to the president, it was the number 10 who offered to leave, justifying that it would help the club.

“That came from him. He said it would help Corinthians reduce its expenses. It was Memphis who discussed this with us. The press is saying it came from Corinthians, but it wasn't. There is a contract, and we will fulfill it as it is. Now, if Memphis wants to bring this benefit to Corinthians, we will gladly accept it”, commented the president.

However, the statement does not follow the line of reports described in the minutes of the Guidance Council (Cori) meeting, held on October 29. In the document, Osmar Stabile claimed that the club explained to Memphis Depay about the financial difficulties and how the change of location would be necessary for the club's finances.

“President of the Board Mr. Osmar Stabile explains that he held a meeting with Memphis and explained the need for the player to leave the hotel and move to a house/apartment with lower costs”, was recorded in the minutes, published by GE.

The cost of the residence is approximately R$ 250,000 per month. The location is in the Bela Vista neighborhood, in the central region of São Paulo. In addition to this amount, Corinthians still owes around R$ 23 million to the player, a value that includes bonuses, signing fees, and other pending amounts already foreseen in the agreement signed in 2024.

The Corinthians board seeks to reach an agreement with the player's agents to settle this debt. “We talked to them, it is not documented yet, but as soon as resources are available, we will pay”, stated Osmar Stabile.

After participating in the play that led to the Corinthians goal, scored by Yuri Alberto, Memphis Depay and the team turn their focus to facing Ceará, after losing to Bragantino. The match will take place on Sunday, for the Brasileirão, at the Neo Química Arena.
