The Brighton and Hove Museum and Art Gallery has opened Stand or Fall, a permanent exhibition marking 125 years of Brighton and Hove Albion. According to TheArgus.co.uk, it is welcoming visitors at the city centre venue.
Set in Pavilion Gardens, the show was created with Brighton and Hove Albion, which funded it. It charts the club’s journey from its early years and battles for survival to Premier League and European football.
Displays range from old seats, tickets and uniforms to a large stadium model at the heart of the gallery. Packed with nods to historic moments and ringed by ceiling-hung screens showing match clips, the model has been tipped by visitors as the likely fan favourite.
Former manager Mark McGhee attended the opening and said he thinks supporters will enjoy it, particularly older fans. He was unsure what younger supporters might take from it beyond being brought along by grandparents, and plans to bring his own grandchildren.
McGhee also wondered if the display would change over time, calling it a living thing with more history still to come.
Brighton and Hove Albion operations director Paul Mullen and museum chief executive Hedley Swain were also present. Swain said the gallery was developed with the club, partners and supporters, and that football clubs shape local identity and shared memories.
A striking five-metre inflatable football accompanied the launch, first appearing to burst from the William IV Royal Pavilion gate and now perched on the museum roof.
Entry is via a standard museum ticket.
