Igor Paixão broke the game open in the 48th minute with a precise low finish, as Marseille beat Metz 3-1 in Ligue 1.
Taking Mason Greenwood's through ball on a fast break, Paixão surged from outside the box and picked out the bottom left corner (48.).
He kept Metz pinned after the restart, winning a free kick on the left for Les Olympiens (70.). He was withdrawn in the first minute of second half stoppage time.
The Brazilian's output told the story: two attempts, eight touches in the box and 15 successful final third passes, plus two successful dribbles that repeatedly carried Les Phocéens up the pitch.
With pace in transition opening lanes, his diagonal runs between full back and centre back kept Metz stretched and ensured Marseille controlled the key phases after the interval.
