Morgan Whittaker struck in the 54th minute to set Middlesbrough on their way to a 4-0 win over Southampton. He then added a second to complete a decisive individual display.
The forward's opener came from a sharp run to the left of the six-yard box, sweeping in Matt Targett's through ball (54.). That breakthrough tilted the contest away from the Saints.
Whittaker doubled up soon after, guiding a left-footed finish into the bottom right from the centre of the area (66.). He then fed Hayden Hackney for a clear sight of goal (69.).
He finished with 6 attempts, 2 on target, and 3 key passes. Beyond the goals, he registered 11 touches in the box and won possession 6 times, underlining how his movement kept Saints' back line on edge.
Boro rise from third to second in the Championship. Saints drop from 14th to 15th. Middlesbrough visit Fulham in the FA Cup next, while Southampton travel to Doncaster Rovers in the FA Cup.
