FC Bayern enjoyed a perfect end to the year on Sunday evening at Heidenheim, putting in a strong, extremely confident performance and ultimately secured a well-deserved 4-0 win. “We could have decided the game earlier, but in the end it's an important victory,” said Harry Kane after the match. “The team approached the match in a highly professional, highly focused and concentrated manner,” praised board member for sport Max Eberlfcbayern.com has compiled the rest of the post-match reaction.

Reaction to the game against Heidenheim

Max Eberl, board member for sport: “The team approached the match in a highly professional, focused and concentrated manner. Jonas Urbig made an outstanding save at 2-0, but in the end we deserved to win. Our goal should be to be fully prepared and ready in March and April when it’s time to secure the trophies. I admire the guys for delivering such a performance every three days. We lost one game in the first half of the season, but we didn't let that deter us. The guys feel the trust of the coaches and the club. There’s a real sense of togetherness now.”

Vincent Kompany: “I'm very proud because it almost felt like a week during the coronavirus times. Whilst we don't have an outbreak in the team, when the doctor comes, you're always afraid. You know you're going to lose a player or two. In the end, we had 12 experienced players, excluding Alphonso Davies, since he can't really be counted yet. We used the young players and the others did their job. I'm proud of how the squad coped. It's not a given that you can win 4-0 here. We didn't make good use of our counter-attacks, which could have decided the game earlier. We have a good foundation for next year. The titles will be decided from March on, but we have the foundation now. Our squad will be strengthened again in January, at just the right time. Now we'll take a break and then carry on.”

Harry Kane: "We put in a good performance in the first half, scoring two goals. We dominated the game. In the second half, we gave away a lot of chances, and Heidenheim also had some good opportunities, but Jonas Urbig made a couple of good saves. We could’ve sealed the game earlier, but in the end it's an important victory. The title in summer was my first, which was very special. We gained a lot of vigour as a team at the Club World Cup, which is hard to break. We’re in a good position in every competition, so let's see how far we can go. We’ll try to keep going as well as possible.”

Jonathan Tah: “Heidenheim tried to step up a gear in the second half. There were a lot of substitutions, so things got a bit chaotic. But we didn't let up. I feel extremely comfortable and settled in very quickly. That's down to the whole atmosphere at the club, the team, the coach. The whole structure made it easy for me to fit in.”

Josip Stanišić: “We got off to a good start. In a game like this, it's really important to show your opponents right from the get-go that they're not going to get anything today. The corner that led to first goal was rehearsed, so that I could run through and hope that the ball would somehow get through to me. And in the end, it was a goal. It was important to just calm things down a bit. The second made it a little easier for us. Nevertheless, we had to step on the gas again in the second half. We made a few changes and then we also had a great goalkeeper who kept a clean sheet. We have confidence in ourselves and know what we are capable of. We need to take this with us into the new year.”

Reaction from Heidenheim

Frank Schmidt (head coach): “Looking back at the first half, we didn’t look good when we conceded. We got in each other’s way. We then changed things around, occupied the spaces differently and attacked earlier. We have to score, then it'd be 2-1, and then I know what my team is capable of. We're coming out of this game with a positive feeling. We need stability and consistency. The way we played in the second half gives us chances to pick up points. I believe in my team. We need to be more consistent. To be honest, today is not a benchmark and not an opponent we can use as a guide. But we have to take the individual moments with us.”

Stefan Schimmer (forward): “Of course, we tried everything again in the second half and created some good chances, but ultimately we need to score the equaliser at the first opportunity. I could’ve done more with my chance. Arijon Ibrahimović also had a huge chance. Had that gone in, it might have been a different game here at home.”
