Star NP: Sorriso comes off bench to win it for Palmeiras at Copinha

Palmeiras defeated Remo 3-0 on the morning of this Sunday (11) and advanced with a 100% record to the second phase of the São Paulo Junior Football Cup. Scorer of one of the goals, forward Sorriso was the main figure in the alviverde's victory.

Verdão fielded a reserve team, initially without Sorriso, who came on at halftime alongside four other players when the game was tied 0-0. The changes had an effect, and the team delivered a textbook second half, led by Sorriso, the most incisive attacking player who posed the greatest threat.

He was directly involved in the first goal at 8 minutes. Sorriso crossed, Juan Gabriel, who also came on at halftime, set it up, and Juliano finished. Towards the end, after Juan Gabriel extended the lead at 35 minutes, it was up to Sorriso to finalize the score by receiving the ball on the right wing, entering the area, and unleashing a powerful shot to hit the net.

Sorriso, 20 years old, bids farewell to the youth categories after the competition. He is not expected to have opportunities in the main team and might be transferred – foreign teams are scouting the young player.

Since 2024, the forward had a loan contract with the club until July 2025 and was permanently acquired by Verdão in the last transfer window. He signed until June 2027. In the purchase from Atlético Guaratinguetá-SP, Palmeiras acquired 50% of the player's economic rights.

Career at Palmeiras

To join Palmeiras in 2024, the Copinha played a fundamental role in the athlete's journey. Sorriso caught Verdão's attention after standing out in the 2024 competition for Atlético Guaratinguerá, signing a contract with the alviverde club after the tournament ended.

The forward had no difficulty adapting, playing 44 and 45 matches in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, respectively. In 2025, he had his most prolific year, scoring 11 goals – compared to 10 in 2024.

“I’m sad that this is my last Copinha, but happy to fulfill my dream of becoming a professional player. I came from Guaratinguetá, after a Copinha, before that I played at Rio Branco-AC. I received this opportunity to wear Palmeiras' jersey and adapted very quickly, with the help of my teammates, management, and staff. I had two great seasons, and I’m very happy,” said the forward to TV Palmeiras.
