Real Betis star Johnny Cardoso has spoken publicly regarding his situation at the club.

As much, of course, comes amid what has proven a hugely impressive start to life for Cardoso since his mid-season arrival in Heliópolis.

The 22-year-old, for his part, linked up with Betis during the January transfer window, from Brazilian outfit Internacional.

And Cardoso has taken little time in going on to establish himself as an absolutely vital member of boss Manuel Pellegrini’s midfield ranks.

Despite intense competition for places, the United States international already boasts near-undisputed starter status, with his 13 La Liga appearances to date having given rise to two goals, as well as an assist.

Such stellar exploits on Cardoso’s part, though, have not gone at all unnoticed, either in Spain, or across the continent.

In fact, recent weeks have seen the New Jersey native garner transfer links with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Atlético Madrid, and even Barcelona.

Speaking in an interview with Onda Cero Sevilla (as cited by Mundo Deportivo) this week, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his future was put to Cardoso himself.

And, in a response which will no doubt bring a collective smile to the faces of Real Betis supporters the world over, the midfield talent went on to explain:

“My head and my goals are in Betis. I arrived a short time ago. I want to continue working and evolving. My head is in Betis and the other things are for my agents.”

He continued:

“I didn’t expect such a quick adaptation. I’m very happy. With my teammates, with the coaching staff, with the club, who helped me a lot. I still have a lot to continue evolving and within the club too.”
