Starter destroys Inter, Diniz hails: “His best match yet for Vasco”

Vasco's 5-1 thrashing of Internacional on Friday at São Januário had an unexpected protagonist: Andrés Gómez. The Colombian needed just one minute to steal the ball from Braian Aguirre, invade the area, and blast past Rochet, opening the scoring in the victory during the 36th round of the Brasileirão.

This time, Gómez played on the left, after switching sides with Nuno Moreira. The change had an immediate effect — and earned the forward his first goal for Vasco in 16 matches.

The performance earned public praise from Fernando Diniz, who was straightforward:

— Today Andrés Gómez had his best technical match. He played well from start to finish, with and without the ball. We marked Inter very well — stated the coach.

Goal, assist, and dominant performance

Besides the lightning goal, Gómez also assisted Rayan in Vasco's third goal early in the second half. He received a pass from Thiago Mendes, sprinted down the left, drew the defense, and set up the number 9 for a clear shot at goal.

It was the Colombian's fifth assist for the club.

— He had been looking for this goal for a long time, thank God it happened today. He is very well integrated with us. There will be many more — said Rayan, who scored two goals in the match.
