Statute reform: FT vote hearing off air, club gives no reason

On the afternoon of this Thursday (4th), Corinthians released the details of the second Public Hearing dedicated to discussing the draft of the statute reform, according to the schedule approved at the last meeting of the Deliberative Council (CD) on November 24. In this meeting, which will take place this Friday (5th) in the press room of Neo Química Arena, starting at 6 p.m. (Brasília time), the topic will be the voting rights of the Fiel Torcedor member.

One point in the text published by the club on its official website, however, once again drew attention: just like in the first meeting, which took place at Parque São Jorge last Monday (1st), broadcasting of the debates will not be allowed, nor will recording of the content, either in full or in part. It was also announced that any accreditation of cameramen would be denied by the club for the event.

The club’s refusals to broadcast Deliberative Council (CD) meetings on Corinthians TV have become a recent and repeated practice by Timão. In the week leading up to the council’s meeting on the 24th, member Hicham Said Abbas, linked to the Coletivo Família Corinthians, requested the broadcast of the debates, receiving approval from CD president Romeu Tuma Júnior, who forwarded the request to president Osmar Stabile, who did not consider it. As a result, there was no broadcast.

Similarly, the CD requested that the hearings be broadcast, in a document sent to the club president last week. However, once again the request was not considered, neither confirmed nor denied, preventing fans from following the debates.

During the hearing on Monday, there were several protests against the non-broadcasting of the event. Some of the speakers who criticized the decision were councilor Vinícius Cascone, member Hicham Said Abbas, and former president of Gaviões da Fiel Douglas Deungaro (“Metaleiro”). Cascone even stated that he would submit a request to Stabile for the following hearings to be broadcast.

Central do Timão reached out to Vinícius Cascone to find out if the request was made. In response, the councilor confirmed. The request was made via email on Monday night, still during the hearing at Parque São Jorge. In it, Cascone argued that broadcasting would help publicize the content of the debates among fans and that the statute reform also aimed to expand democracy within the club. However, according to him, no response has been received so far.

To the editorial staff, the councilor said: “The decision to hold public hearings was precisely to broaden the debate on the statutory reform, and also to provide greater transparency and ensure the widest possible participation of members, councilors, and fans. Broadcasting on Corinthians TV allows for total transparency in the discussion process, and also ensures that our fans have full knowledge of the debates.”

During the debates on Monday, Tuma also spoke on the subject. The CD president reiterated that he had requested the broadcast of the hearing, but received no response, and that he could not determine such a broadcast on his own initiative, as the management of Corinthians TV is the responsibility of the executive board, meaning the decision ultimately lies with president Osmar Stabile.

The official added that the subject is not unanimous within the Deliberative Council, and that there are councilors who publicly claim to support broadcasting the council’s meetings, but who, behind the scenes, work with Stabile to politically pressure him and prevent authorization for the broadcast from being granted.

Central do Timão has been trying to contact Corinthians since the 24th to obtain an official response regarding the reasons why the board did not authorize the broadcast of the CD meeting that day, nor of the subsequent public hearings. So far, however, the editorial staff has not received any response. If a response is received later, the article will be updated.
