Inter Milan took another big step towards the next round of the Champions League on Tuesday night. An own goal from Castello Lukeba secured a 1-0 win and all three points for the Serie A side, moving them up to top spot in the league table. Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij played an important role in his side’s success, standing strong in the middle of the defence between Pavard and Bastoni, and initially claiming the only goal of the night.
Both Stefan de Vrij and Denzel Dumfries started the game for Inter, who extended their unbeaten run across all competitions to 12 games with Tuesday’s victory. Dumfries also performed superbly, playing his usual role as a wing-back, pushing high up the pitch to help in attack when his side are in possession. The Netherlands international won the most duels in the match (8) and managed two attempts at goal. Stefan de Vrij recorded a 92% pass accuracy, six clearances and six recoveries. A brilliant night for the Dutch duo.
Inter Milan currently sit third in Serie A, just one point behind Napoli in top spot and level on points with second place Atalanta. Simone Inzaghi‘s side are involved in arguably the most exciting title race across Europe so far this season, with Atalanta, Inter, Fiorentina and Lazio all level on 28 points in the top six.
