Stefan Kuntz, 63, the Euro 96 winner, has been dismissed from Hamburg’s board following allegations of inappropriate physical contact.
He had left his sporting director post on 2 January, with Hamburg saying he requested a release for family reasons. Bild reports that several club employees later came forward, including a female staff member alleging inappropriate physical contact, and that some described him as a 'touchy guy'.
The club said in a statement that in December 2025 the supervisory board, supported by external lawyers, opened an investigation, found the allegations credible and sought the quickest possible separation. It added that protecting those concerned was the priority, that Kuntz declined repeated invitations to comment, and that talk of a smear campaign was unfounded.
Kuntz has denied all allegations. In an Instagram post, he said the accusations hit him hard and added, “I strongly reject these allegations”, saying he had instructed his lawyers to act.
Kuntz had served as Hamburg’s sporting director since 2024. He previously managed the Türkiye national team and Germany Under-21s, and was a Euro 96 champion with Germany.
