Sky Germany reports that Hamburg head coach Steffen Baumgart has been sacked by the club after their 2-2 draw with Schalke on Saturday evening.
Hamburg are currently seventh in the 2.Bundesliga, two points off of the promotion places. However, HSV are now on a four-game winless run which culminated in last night’s draw with Schalke where they threw away a 2-0 lead to draw the game 2-0 and miss the chance to enter the promotion places.
It does not get any easier for Hamburg as next weekend they travel to second-placed Karlsruher.
Baumgart has already been informed of the decision to part ways with him, while his assistant coaches Kevin McKenna & Rene Wagner will also leave the club. Just earlier this month, there was a meeting at the Volksparkstadion where the board decided Baumgart would continue as head coach.
The former 1.FC Köln head coach will be replaced by Merlin Polzin on an interim basis and with four games left until the winter break, it is plausible that Polzin will stay in charge until then giving Hamburg enough time to find a replacement who can help them end their seemingly never-ending spell in the 2.Bundesliga.
