Stellenbosch FC eliminated defending champions Kaizer Chiefs out of the Nedbank Cup following a 2-1 win in the Round of 32 at the DHL Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Cape Winelands outfit opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Ibraheem Jabaar, who calmly slotted home from the spot after Thabo Moloisane was fouled by Flavio Da Silva.
Gavin Hunt's men doubled their lead 12 minutes later as speedy winger Devin Titus unleashed a strike from range to beat Brandon Petersen in the Chiefs goal.
While the Soweto giants enjoyed a lion share of ball possession, Sage Stephens kept them at bay with incredible saves in the first stanza, to ensure the two-goal cushion stays intact at the interval.
Chiefs were rewarded for their valiant efforts as striker Flavio Da Silva also converted from the spot in the 56th minute, but the goal only proved to be a consolation as Stellies held on.
Notably, Stellenbosch have now eliminated Chiefs in two domestic cup competitions this season, having bestowed the same fate on the Glamour Boys in the Carling Knockout Cup.
