Moulin previously managed Châtellerault from 1997 to 2005 and Angers between 2011 and 2021.

He later led Caen from 2021 to 2023.

Valenciennes' form had been uneven, illustrated by a 2-1 win away to leaders FC Rouen on 6 February, then a 1-2 home defeat to bottom side Saint-Brieuc last Friday. VAFC are 13th in National.
