Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has issued an update on the uncertain future of Thabo Moloisane, who is into the final 12 months of his contract.

The 26-year-old defender joined the Cape Winelands outfit on a free transfer from Maritzburg United in July 2023 after the Team of Choice got relegated to the second tier.

Since then, he has been rock solid at the heart of defense, racking up a total of 92 appearances across all competitions and four goals scored with three assists.

However, Moloisane is expected to leave Stellenbosch when his contract lapses at the end of the season, but Barker is hopeful the player can be retained beyond the 2025/26 term.

“Thabo [Moloisane] is a key player for us, and he has been. It is something that we are still working on, I think that we have played a number of games leading up to the final and he was with the Bafana squad,” said the Stellies mentor.

“It has just been difficult to find the calmness of the season. Hopefully in the next window we can find a way to sort it out but it’s not in my hands currently. Obviously, I would love for him to stay and be with the team going forward.

It remains to be seen whether the two parties can reach an agreement over a new deal, with Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns said to be monitoring the situation.

The Bafana international, who has made 10 appearances in all competitions thus far this season, will be eligible to sign a pre-contract with any team of his preference in January 2026.
