Steve Bruce believes his spell in management has reached its end, though he will not rule out a return to the touchline.

“I can never say never, but I honestly believe that I've had my time in management now. I thoroughly enjoyed it and still love it to this day, but I think there comes a time when you have to call it.” The comments were made on The Overlap and Betfair’s Stick to Cricket show.

“I had a conversation with Ireland a few years ago, and would you believe, before Steve McClaren, I had a chat with the Jamaican FA. They went for Steve McClaren in the end.”

Bruce led Sunderland for just over two years between 2009 and 2011, then managed Hull City, Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday. He returned to the North East with Newcastle in summer 2019, departing after a Saudi-led takeover at St James' Park in October 2021.

He later took charge at West Bromwich Albion and Blackpool. He has been out of work since leaving Blackpool in October last year.
