Blackpool boss Steve Bruce has made it clear that he will take his team’s EFL Trophy tie against a quality and youthful Aston Villa Under-21 side tonight seriously.
The young Villans are not having a very good season so far as they are sitting second bottom in the Premier League 2 table.
They have not won a league match since late September, when they beat Blackburn Rovers Under-21s 2-1.
Villa have progressed in the EFL Trophy though and are into the second round, where they will meet Blackpool away from home tonight.
Seasiders boss Bruce has insisted that his side will not take the young Villans lightly as he feels they are a ‘quality’ side.
“It’s another cup tie and we’re going to come up against a youthful Aston Villa team that will have a great deal of quality”, Bruce told the Seasiders media about the young Villans.
“There are some lads in our squad that need to get some game time under their belts, particularly given the busy Christmas period that we have that is coming up.
“We’re going to take this seriously.
“We want to be in the next round and go far in the competition if we can.
“We’re looking forward to the challenge that awaits us.”
Now it remains to be seen if the young Villans will be able to get back to winning ways against the League One side tonight.
