Steve Mounié considering contract extension at Champions League-chasing Brest

Steve Mounié’s (29) contract at Stade Brestois expires at the end of the season, but with the Breton club chasing UEFA Champions League football next season, the Benin international is considering an extension, according to a report from L’Équipe.

Whilst Mounié is not the most prolific striker in Ligue 1, having scored just three goals in the league in 25 appearances, he has become a crucial component at a Brest side that had been tipped for relegation prior to the start of the season. Instead, they are currently second and with each passing week, their chances of featuring in next season’s Champions League increase.

It is within his context that Mounié is considering his future at the club. The Benin international received a contract proposal from Brest in February, which he is currently mulling over. It is currently unclear whether Mounié seeks a new challenge or whether he wishes to remain at Brest, where it is increasingly likely that he would get the chance to feature in European Cup football for the first time in his career.
