Celtic have been linked with a move for Steven Fletcher since 2008. The rangy striker made his breakthrough at Hibs but was strongly linked with a move while Gordon Strachan was still manager.
Celtic never got a deal done for Fletcher despite the Scotland International being eager to move to his boyhood club. After a number of years, the rumours returned and Celtic have been listed every time that Fletcher moved in the summer.
Most recently, Celtic were linked with a move for the attacker in 2020 but decided to go for Albian Ajeti from West Ham.
However, there will be no move to the Hoops as Fletcher has confirmed his retirement from professional football after an impressive career.
Fletcher has enjoyed a fine career up more than 660 appearances and 171 goals. He first made his mark at Hibernian with 43 goals in 156 games before heading south, where he featured for Burnley, Wolves, and Sunderland—scoring consistently and chipping in with assists. A brief loan at Marseille added a touch of European experience, while later spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke, Dundee United, and most recently Wrexham underlined his longevity.
After leaving Hibs, Fletcher enjoyed longevity in the Premier League, scoring 53 goals in 190 games.
