Ibrahim Cissoko has yet to grab a goal contribution for Bolton Wanderers in League One this season
Ibrahim Cissoko is yet to register a goal or assist since his loan move to League One Bolton Wanderers from French club Toulouse this summer, and many Trotters fans have taken to social media to voice their displeasure with the Dutch winger's performances.
Bolton manager Steven Schumacher will be as disappointed as anyone with how the loan signing of Cissoko has transpired for the Trotters.
The Dutch winger spent the first half of the 2024/25 season on loan in the Championship with Plymouth Argyle, where he scored three times and grabbed one assist before being recalled that January. Cissoko showed glimpses of outstanding quality during his time at Home Park, before an infamous red card in a 5-0 defeat to Cardiff City and a subsequent long-term injury lay-off spelled the end of his stint.
He would mmediately return to England to join division rivals Sheffield Wednesday, but the 22-year-old would play just five times for the Owls in the second half of the campaign, accumulating just 51 minutes of football under then-manager Danny Rohl.
Cissoko joined his third English club in just a year when he dropped to League One this summer with Bolton, with the notion that a slightly lower level standard of football would increase output from the Dutchman, who was expected to shine in the third-tier.
However, zero goals or assists in ten league appearances have seen the Bolton fanbase grow frustrated with Cissoko, and have taken to social media to vent their disappointment.
It would be safe to suggest that Bolton fans haven't exactly been impressed by Cissoko during his first few months in Greater Manchester.
The Trotters sit ninth in the League One table after 12 games, with four wins, five draws, and three losses, culminating in a difficult start to Schumacher's first full campaign in charge.
Their most recent defeat, a 3-0 loss away to lowly Burton Albion, where Cissoko picked up a yellow card before being substituted at half-time, was enough for fans to take to X to voice their anger.
Not only does this Bolton fan think Cissoko doesn't deserve a place in the starting 11, but he thinks a place in the matchday squad isn't even warranted based on his performances, a damning take.
Another damning take on Cissoko from this Bolton fan, who has compared the threat of Cissoko on the pitch to that of a gentle breeze.
Jimmy Dickinson served as Head of Recruitment at Plymouth before joining Bolton this summer, and, understandably, this Bolton fan believes he had a major part in the signing of Cissoko, having initially brought him to the Pilgrims in the first place.
The time will come before too long when Schumacher will have to make a big call over the future of Cissoko, and whether he wants to keep the Dutchman at the club past the winter window.
Thierry Gale has largely been preferred on the left flank when fit, with Brighton loanee Amario Cozier-Duberry having locked down the right wing spot as his own with a series of dazzling displays
Cissoko must prove his worth before too long, otherwise the likelihood of him remaining a Bolton player beyond January appears to be increasingly unlikely.
With no international break in League One, Schumacher has not been afforded the luxury of other clubs to take a week off and reflect on the club's current situation, and in particular Cissoko's, which is coming under increased scrutiny.
If Schumacher wants to improve Bolton's fortunes and turn his side into genuine promotion contenders, many supporters would argue that Cissoko should not be a part of such efforts.
