The Bolton boss has revealed his thoughts on potential recalls for Amario Cozier-Duberry and Mason Burstow.

Bolton Wanderers boss Steven Schumacher has admitted he isn’t concerned about the potential recalls in January of loanees Amario Cozier-Duberry and Mason Burstow after their positive starts to life at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

The Trotters utilised the loan market during the summer transfer window brilliantly, recruiting Cozier-Duberry and Burstow along with the likes of Teddy Sharman-Lowe, Ibrahim Cissoko and Marcus Forss.

And so far, Cozier-Duberry and Burstow have been the two standout performers, with their sharp displays helping the club sit on the periphery of the play-off places heading into the October international break.

Brighton loanee Cozier-Duberry has hit the ground running since linking up in the third-tier, completing 90 minutes in all but one game and recording two goals and four assists from those 11 League One outings.

Meanwhile, Burstow has had his fair share of stints being unable to hit the back of the net regularly, but his fortunes have transformed since being loaned out by Hull City to Bolton, with the 22-year-old hitting seven goals from his 11 third-tier appearances, which included a brace in their most recent encounter against Peterborough United.

The duo have been so key to keeping Bolton free-flowing in attack, with the club netting nine times in their last three home fixtures.

Due to his early form, Cozier-Duberry could be in line for a recall from Brighton to be loaned out to a Championship club for the second half of the season, with Sheffield United reportedly keen on making a move for him and adding the dangerous wideman onto their books.

With Burstow, there’s nothing to suggest so far that Hull are stepping up efforts over a potential recall, but if the months go by and the goals keep coming from the frontman, then that could be subject to change as a January recall clause remains in place.

It’s obviously a big concern for Bolton supporters that such influential players could leave, potentially putting a firm dent into their promotion ambitions this season.

And Bolton boss Schumacher has responded to these links, with his reaction potentially coming as a bit of a surprise to those connected with the club.

Steven Schumacher unfazed by Amario Cozier-Duberry and Mason Burstow recall talk

As per a report by the Bolton News, manager Steven Schumacher has decided to embrace the recall rumours of Amario Cozier-Duberry and Mason Burstow, indicating it’s a sign that they're having a positive impact at Bolton, while he refuses to look towards January with any concern.

Schumacher said: “In the loan contracts of all these players, there’s always a call-back clause in January, that’s kind of what happens.

“If it's going well for them, and they have other plans, or it's not going well, and we need to send them back, then there's always a break clause.

“But it's not a concern that they're doing well. That's the point of us having loan players, because we think they're good players, and they come in and help your team. So, I'm delighted with all of the loan players that we've had.

“Probably the one that hasn't made the impact as much as we would have wanted to yet because his opportunity hasn't been there is Ibrahim Cissoko. He has found himself behind Thierry Gale at this point in time, but the others are all performing really well.”

Amario Cozier-Duberry and Mason Burstow recall fears will be at the back of Steven Schumacher’s mind

As much as Steven Schumacher has put a positive spin on the futures of some of his loanees, it will be a worry in the back of his mind that Bolton’s promotion push could derail if they exit the club halfway through the season.

As mentioned, the likes of Cozier-Duberry and Burstow have been fundamental to keeping the goals flowing at the top end of the pitch.

Cozier-Duberry has been a livewire on the flank, scoring twice and creating 16 chances so far this term, while Burstow has been the clinical frontman Bolton have been crying out for, essential for the Trotters trying to make a return to the Championship.

You do feel that the future of these players is critical to any success Bolton will have this term, and they must make every effort to keep hold of the duo beyond January, even though much of it is in the hands of Brighton and Hull.

This is the nature of being a third-tier club at the moment, but Bolton will just have to hope they can drop lucky and that their parent clubs want them to keep thriving in a stable environment.
