FLW's Owls fan pundit has reacted to the news that Duncan Watmore could be on Sheffield Wednesday's radar

With Sheffield Wednesday now allowed to sign a couple of free agents, speculation has been building over who may be finding themselves at Hillsborough shortly, having been without a club for the ongoing campaign.
Former Championship-winning captain Liam Cooper is one of them, with the other expected to help bolster their frontline.
Alan Nixon reported over the weekend that former Middlesbrough and Millwall wideman Duncan Watmore was training with Stockport County with a view to perhaps being the other man able to fill the two free agent spots opened up for Wednesday after the EFL relaxed one of their transfer restrictions.
However, given that only one place separates the two in the footballing pyramid (Wednesday being 24th in League One and Stockport holding top spot in League One), County's current injury crisis, and the fact that Dave Challinor has been able to entice the likes of Ollie Norwood and Lewis Bate, among other Championship-level names, to the club in the past few years, many may have felt that the 31-year-old could be making a permanent move to Edgeley Park.
Those rumours have been squashed, though, and it looks like it will be Hillsborough where Watmore ends up.

On face value, Watmore seems a great signing for Sheffield Wednesday. The 31-year-old scored five times in 26 Championship appearances for Millwall last season, and has had years when he's pushed double digits for goals, too.
However, when the news came out that he was training with Stockport, FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, wasn't too fussed if it was the Hatters who he'd sign with.
"With Duncan Watmore training with Stockport, there's surely more of a chance he'd sign there than with Wednesday, which may sound crazy as we're the bigger club," he said.
"But Stockport are flying this season and are top of League One, so he'd be going to a team who are full of confidence, scoring goals, and nothing really beats being top of the league.
"Rather than Wednesday, who are struggling on the pitch, due to circumstances that are way beyond their fault."
Despite it seemingly being a smarter option to join a County side who are battling to be in the Championship next season, Watmore looks likely to join Sheffield Wednesday instead.
Whilst McKenna and the rest of the Wednesday fanbase will welcome yet another seasoned pro into their threadbare squad, the fan pundit feels that the club should be using their links to top Premier League clubs to get more academy prospects, like they did with Harry Amass this past summer.
"I don't think he'd be a massive miss for us [if he signed for Stockport]," McKenna said.
"I'm aware that there may only be a certain category of player we can attract, but I think there would be better options out there.
"I think with the links that we have with a club like Man United, who have allowed us to bring in the likes of Amass, plus we were close to signing a few more last deadline day, it may be worth getting loans in for younger players, rather than someone like Watmore."

McKenna's comments have arguably come from a place of shock, as it seemed clear that a move to Stockport would make more sense for a player who would likely want to join a successful project closer to Manchester, where Watmore grew up.
So, the move to Wednesday will come as a pleasant surprise, but that doesn't mean that the Owls should be happy with just him as an attacking upgrade over the coming months.
If Sheffield Wednesday are in a position to do so, bringing in more players like Harry Amass, who has been very impressive so far at Hillsborough, is a must. Not only to possibly give the club the tiniest opportunity for survival, but also to make the most out of the rest of the season, if they do go down.
If Watmore can chip in with some goals here and there, as he has done during his time at Middlesbrough and Millwall, this will go down as a useful arrival.
