Stoke City are preparing yet another move for an Ipswich Town player before the summer deadline in the form of Chiedozie Ogbene

Stoke City are preparing a move for another Ipswich Town player before the end of the summer window, with Irish winger Chiedozie Ogbene the subject of a fresh enquiry by the Potters.

According to Kings of Anglia's Stuart Watson, Stoke are readying a move for Ipswich winger Ogbene before the deadline, with Mark Robins looking to add another option to his side's attack.

The Potters have already completed deals for George Hirst, who arrives in North Staffordshire for a potential £10 million, and Ben Johnson, who follows Hirst on a season-long loan move, as Ogbene could be the third player to make the move from Portman Road to the bet365 Stadium this summer.

Stoke are looking for a strong end to the summer window, as, having brought in seven fresh faces so far, the Championship club are interested in making Ogbene the eighth, and the third from Ipswich after Hirst and Johnson.

The Potters had looked to sign Harry Clarke from the Tractor Boys as well, having agreed a £3.5 million fee previously, but pulled out of that deal following a medical, with the right-back heading to Preston North End instead.

Ogbene, 29, has had a difficult few years. The 35-capped Irish international secured a dream move to the Premier League with Luton Town in 2023 after starring for Rotherham United in League One and the Championship, but would suffer relegation with the Hatters after just one year.

He'd be given a Premier League lifeline by Ipswich the following summer, joining the Tractor Boys for around £8 million under Kieran McKenna, but would suffer a devastating Achilles injury shortly after his arrival, and after an unsuccessful spell on loan with Sheffield United last season, has been deemed surplus to requirements in Suffolk.

It's not clear at this stage whether Stoke are interested in a permanent or loan move for the winger, but what is certain is that the 29-year-old is not a part of Gary O'Neil's plans this year, as the Potters are interested in offering Ogbene the opportunity to continue his career in the second tier.

Football League World's Derby County fan pundit, Shaun Woodward, urged his side to focus on other additions instead, with the Rams having been linked with Ogbene previously.

With just days of the window remaining, the futures of numerous Stoke forwards remain unclear.

Sorba Thomas has been the subject of heavy interest from Hull City, with the Potters outright rejecting the Tigers' initial bid worth an initial £7 million, though the Premier League side's pursuit of the Welshman is not expected to be over just yet.

Million Manhoef and Bae Jun-Ho are both in the final 12 months of their deals in the Potteries, with the latter having been previously linked with a move to Lyon, and neither has shown any indication of signing fresh terms, as this will be the club's last chance to cash in on either before risking losing both on free transfers.

Meanwhile, Ato Ampah has still yet to make his debut for the Potters after his £3 million move from Chelsea last January, and it remains to be seen what sort of level he is capable of performing at upon his return from injury, whilst the club are reportedly looking to offload Slovakian striker Robert Bozenik before the deadline.

That being said, Ogbene would offer another option out on either flank, though he is most comfortable on the right, and also capable of playing further back as a wing-back.

The Irishman, although he has struggled in recent years, directly contributed to seven goals in 30 Premier League appearances during his one year in the top flight with Luton, and with 33 caps for his nation under his belt, he has proven he can perform at a high level.

If Stoke can find the best of Ogbene, they could have a real coup on their hands, as the Potters revisit Ipswich once more.
