Stoke City are closing in on their second MLS capture of the window after Luca Bombino's impending arrival, with a move for Houston Dynamo midfielder and USA international Jack McGlynn close to being complete.

Indeed, according to The Athletic's Tom Bogert, Stoke are closing in on a deal worth around $5.5 million (£4m), including add-ons, for Houston Dynamo's Jack McGlynn.

McGlynn, 23, will follow fellow American Luca Bombino to the Potteries in the next couple of days, as the USMNT midfielder will look to provide strong competition in the middle of the park for Mark Robins' struggling side.

Stoke are looking to end the summer on a strong note, and they will need to after their start to the new Championship campaign, with three league defeats on the spin to Swansea City, Southampton, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Potters have completed seven new additions thus far, including the likes of George Hirst, Ethan Galbraith, and Djibril Soumare, and are close to confirming their eighth in the form of San Diego left-back Luca Bombino, after Tom Bogert reported a fee north of $5 million (£3.6 million) had been agreed with the Californian outfit last Friday.

Now, Bogert has revealed that a deal for McGlynn is not far behind, with the 13-capped American international set to join his compatriot in North Staffordshire within the coming days.

The 23-year-old will provide competition in the middle of the pitch for the likes of Galbraith, Soumare, Svante Ingelsson, Tomas Rigo, and Ben Pearson.

With each of Thomas, Million Manhoef, and Bae Jun-Ho's futures remaining uncertain entering the final days of the window, there is every chance Stoke could be without all three after the deadline, and something they must be prepared for.

McGlynn will go some way to replacing their output, though where Robins sees his best position, at this stage, remains to be seen.
