Stolarczyk selects U21 squad

Poland Under 21 coach Maciej Stolarczyk has named 23 players for his squad to face San Marino and Germany in their final qualification matches for the 2023 European U21 Championship.

The young Poles face an uphill battle to qualify for the tournament; likely needing victories against the two nations at both the bottom and the top of the Group B table. They will, however, need results elsewhere to go their way; currently sitting in third, a point off of the play-off place, they will need Israel to drop points against either Latvia or San Marino.

Brighton loanees Michał Karbownik and Kacper Kozłowski are among the key names in the squad, alongside Wolfsburg striker Bartosz Białek , Parma’s Adrian Benedyczak, and expected RC Lens signing Łukasz Poręba. There is also a strong Ekstraklasa contingent; notably Raków Częstochowa’s Ben Lederman, Górnik Zabrze’s Krzystof Kubica, and Radomiak Radom keeper Filip Majchrowicz.

Almost a third of Stolarczyk’s squad are yet to make an appearance at under-21 level. A strong loan spell at Southend United has seen Sheffield United’s Kacper Łopata selected for the first time; 18-year-old Kacper Trelowski has earned his place after keeping goal for the entirety of Raków Częstochowa’s successful Puchar Polski defence; while Bartłomiej Wdowik (Jagiellonia Białystok), Łukasz Łakomy (Zagłębie Lubin), Jakub Myszor (Cracovia) and Kacper Sezonienko (Lechia Gdańsk) have all seen plenty of playing time for their clubs in the Ekstraklasa’s spring round.

Stolarczyk’s Eaglets will face off against San Marino in Serravalle on 2nd June, before meeting Germany five days later in Łódź.
