Strasbourg draw Mainz in Conference League as Crystal Palace advance to face Fiorentina | OneFootball

Strasbourg will face Mainz in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals, while Crystal Palace squeezed through after extra time.

According to L'Équipe, Mainz eliminated Sigma Olomouc after a 0-0 draw in the Czech Republic then a 2-0 home win, with Stefan Posch scoring in the 46th minute and Armindo Sieb adding the second in the 82nd. Strasbourg, who knocked out Rijeka after a long trip to Croatia, now head to Germany on 9 April then host the return on 16 April.

Crystal Palace were held as in the first leg, the return ending 1-1 in normal time against AEK Larnaca, before Ismaïla Sarr struck in extra time. Having opened the scoring earlier, he converted from Daichi Kamada’s pass to seal qualification. Palace will meet Fiorentina, who again beat Rakow 2-1.

In Strasbourg’s half of the draw, AEK Athens, beaten 2-0 at home by Celje after a 4-0 win in Slovenia last Thursday, will face Rayo Vallecano. Rayo were also defeated in the second leg by Samsunspor after their first-leg victory, 3-1, 1-0. The winner will take on Strasbourg or Mainz for a place in the final.

The other quarter-final pairs Alkmaar, in control throughout against Sparta Prague, 2-1 then 4-0, with the Ukrainians of Chakhtior Donetsk, 3-1 then 1-2.
